Nursery + baby update

After searching Craigslist for a couple of months, I finally found the perfect dresser for the nursery. This will also double as her changing table.

I have such a thing for well made antique & vintage furniture. The only thing I’m not completely loving about this piece is that the top is laminate. So I’ll probably prime it with some Linsser primer & then paint over. While I’m at it, I was thinking about doing a stencil on the top part too. Kind of like the quatrefoil stencil I did on our antique buffet. Honestly though, I might just keep it the way it is.

gold antique hardwareI’m so in love with the original antique gold hardware

drwers openSurprisingly the drawers don’t stick or get jammed. They slide out like butter! This piece was made by Morris of California. They are known for their smooth sliding drawers. So if you love vintage furniture, but hate the sticking drawers, search for one of these.

Above her changing table, I plan to make a gallery wall out of gold frames & other accents. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

***Baby Update***

I’m officially in the 3rd & final trimester!! We have 90 days to go. I can’t wait to meet this daughter of ours!

27 weeks

We had a doctor’s appointment last week & everything is right on track

Current cravings: candy canes & lemon water

Current weight gain: 24 pounds

Current annoyances: not being able to take my shoes on & off without it feeling like a workout, occasional lower backaches

Things I miss: caffeine, wine, sleeping on my stomach, sleeping through the night & not having to pee 8 times a night (NOT an exaggeration)

Things I’m loving: All the kicking from my baby – except when she is stomping on my bladder in the middle of the night. ouch! Having dinner made for me & house cleaning done by my favorite carpet cleaning sunnyvale! He has been so helpful & incredibly sweet throughout the pregnancy. Love him!!!

Ikea Shelving Completes the Look!

Friday we made the trip to Ikea to pick up their Lack shelves. $16.99 each?! You really can’t beat that.. and honestly I think they look pretty dang cute in the dining room.

What do you think? I decided on the high gloss white lack shelf instead of the matte finish. In person the matte finish looked super cheap & ugly. I was a little worried about the super modern high gloss shelves looking weird with the shabby vintage decor of the buffet, but I think it works well. Again I ador mixing modern with vintage antique pieces.

I’m loving the look of the open storage & the gold chalkboard accents the wall perfectly.

If you’re looking for storage solutions, I definitely recommend these. They come in a ton of different colors and three different sizes.

Enjoy your week!  Xo, Melissa

I will be taking better photos of the entire room real soon! This is just a teaser. Stay tuned..

DIY Paper & Burlap Lined Cabinet

I bought this white cabinet  from the Antique Fair awhile ago. I was thinking I wanted to eventually line the back of the cabinet with wallpaper or paint to make everything in the cabinet stand out more. Randomly the other night, I was going through all my wedding stuff and realized I had a bunch of left over burlap and cute paper from the wedding.  So I decided to see what it would look like glued to the back of the cabinet!

Here is the result:

I did it so fast, I didn’t even think to take before pictures! {It was basically I lifeless plain white cabinet before with no personality.}

I didn’t have enough of the gold & cream vintage paper to line both shelves, so I used burlap for the bottom & the paper on top. I just measured and cut burlap for the bottom &  did the same with the vintage paper. I used a hot glue gun and glued them to the back of the shelf. The thing I love the most is that almost everything on the shelves were used in our wedding or my bridal shower.

Love the vintage shabby chic feel

You could also use your favorite wallpaper or whatever you have laying around the house. Even leftover fabric would work.

Have you done something similar to this DIY? Did you use wallpaper, paint or other? Do tell! I love getting new ideas.

Our Living Room Update

Clay & I got so much done on the living room re-vamp this past weekend. I FINALLY picked the perfect aqua color for the accent wall. We chose Benjamin Moore’s bird’s egg . Clayton keeps saying our living room looks like a nursery hahaha but says he loves it. He didn’t want it too bright and wild, so this was the perfect color for us. BTW, I highly recommend using green frog tape to tape off your walls when painting. This stuff is amazing. There was absolutely no bleeding through at all! You can find frog tape at all home improvement and painting stores.

and as you can see we got the chandelier up!!

So romantic at night…

Special thanks to my handy little brother. Love you!

Here’s a before picture (notice the horrendous ceiling fan) – sorry for the crappy iphone pic

What a difference huh? Everytime we are hanging out in the living room, I can’t stop staring at the walls and the chandelier haha. Obsessed. We still have to get a coffee table & two chairs but the room is coming along quite nicely.

Also the Pottery Barn Teen lattice rug is working out perfect!

Sunday we headed up to San Francisco to check out the Oscar Sofa at ZGallerie that I have been obsessing over.

Turns out Clay liked it just as much as I did, so we bought it.

Can’t wait for it to come!

I couldn’t really get a good full shot of the couch since there was a bunch of stuff in the way! The SF store was small and kinda cramped. Anyway, I’m loving the tufted bottom cushion, turned legs, bronze nailhead & the soft pillows make it oh sooooo comfy. Classic. Chic. Timeless. LOVE.

Here’s a better picture from ZGallerie’s site

We ended the night off by going out for dinner & drinks at this amazing Thai restaurant – OSHA Thai

Hope you all had a fun weekend too!

Holiday Tablescape Musts!

Thanksgiving  & Christmas are right around the corner! Oh how I love this time of year. This Thanksgiving we will all be heading over to Clayton’s parent’s house for a fun family Thanksgiving feast.

When it comes to holiday decor & tablescapes I tend to like the unique and unexpected.

Like this idea of using your old wine bottles as candle holders! Brilliant and cost effective!

I  think candles are a definite must when it comes to decorating your table for the holidays.

{West Elm}

Colors I normally lean toward are metallic & earth tones. Gold, silver & champagne colors are among my top favorites.

West Elm has some GORGEOUS options for tea light candle holders. Kind of obsessed. Also check out Pottery Barn.

Place cards are another detail that I really like for any special occasion. Small details like these make all the difference!

{Martha Stewart}

There are so many different easy ideas for holiday place cards on Pinterest.

Now let’s talk menus! Personalized menus are a great way to personalize your table and wow your dinner guests.

This one is so cute for Christmas! The candy cane stripes are adorable.

Or you could keep it simple & chic.

Here’s another amazing idea for a menu. Such pretty elements of vintage & rustic style.

Dress up your place settings with simple things like a cinnamon stick, berries & twine. SO simple yet so amazing.

Pepsi Crate Obsession

I love the rustic feel these crates bring to my house.  I made a little centerpiece for our dining room table. The bright ranunculus flowers against the vintage Pepsi crate + the glam gold candle holders = AMAZ!

We actually used a lot of these pieces  in our engagement shoot that Clay & I did this past Sunday – photos to come soon!!

I also hung two crates as shelves.

I even made use out of one in the guest bathroom! As you can see, I am quite obsessed and the possibilities are endless.
